As the name indicates, Shankar Viman mandapam is a holy temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva or Shakara. It is located to the North of the Triveni Sangam and the left bank of the river Ganges. Thousands of devotees flock to the temple particularly during the Kumbh Mela. However, it remains open all year round and can be visited for special prayer sessions as well.
10 .3 0 A M , Mankameshwar Temple (Recommended time approx. 60 minutes.)
Mankameshwar signifies the deity who grants wishes, and the temple's name is derived from a fascinating legend. According to the legend, it was founded by Lord Rama during the time he, along with Laxman and Sita, rested under the Akshayavat tree while en route to Chitrakoot. At one point, goddess Sita expressed her desire to offer prayers to Lord Shiva after her ritual bathing at the Sangam.
As there was no temple dedicated to Lord Shiva nearby, Lord Rama constructed this temple to realize her wish. Subsequently, both worshipped Lord Shiva and conducted the Abhishek ceremony. It is still widely believed that wishes made at this temple are granted.
